La Serena, Chile

La Serena, our previous home, is where we spent most of our visit to Chile. We were greeted by a pretty big storm (by La Serena standards) which left snow on even some of the lower mountains in the valley. I can't take credit for the rainbow photo - our friend Judith took that one! Our friends also showered us with hospitality during our 5 week trip as we moved nomad-like from casa to casa - we can't thank them enough for truly making us feel like we were back home - you guys are the best!!!

We got to do all the things we missed - walking and running on the beach, going to our favorite restaurants, playing Mah Jongg and poker, going to barbeques, meeting up with old friends and even helping out at a book sale. Jack spent nearly 3 weeks going to "Jardin" - a half-day pre-school - with his friend Penny. Great preparation for starting school this fall!

Chris, of course, was hard at work with his students, who made a fantastic presentation about Astro-tourism at the end of our trip and will present their work to the University of Michigan in a few weeks.

Thanks again to all who made our trip spectacular - we miss you!!
